Montgomery County Police said they used a Taser to subdue a man who appeared to be threatening to stab an infant.

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Police responded to a call an apartment in the 11400 block of Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring for a domestic dispute.

When they got to the apartment, they found 24-year-old Jack Romero brandishing what they believed to be a knife, and ordered him to put down the weapon down. Instead, Romero fled into a bedroom and shut the door, police said.

A woman at the residence told police that a 6-month-old and a three-year-old were in the bedroom with Romero.

More officers arrived and officers opened the door as Romero knelt next to the bed with the six-month-old before him. Romero held a knife in his left hand and the baby’s chest with his right hand.

Officers ordered him to drop the knife, Romero put the knife to this throat and threatened to kill himself, police said.

An officer shot Romero in the chest with a Taser and police were able to overpower him and rescue the children, authorities said.

Romero, 24, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault.
