House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday she believes Democrats can work with President-elect Donald Trump on legislation to rebuild the nation’s crumbling infrastructure.
Pelosi, D-Calif., said now that Trump has “won the Electoral College and Hillary Clinton won the popular vote,” the two parties have a responsibility to find common ground and she pointed to infrastructure, which Trump said would be at the top of his agenda.
“As President-elect Trump indicated last night, investing in infrastructure is an important priority of his,” Pelosi said. “We can work together to quickly pass a robust infrastructure jobs bill.”
Trump early Wednesday morning gave an acceptance speech in which he promised to “fix our inner cities and rebuild our highways, bridges, tunnels, airports, schools, hospitals,” Trump added, “We’re going to rebuild our infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none. And we will put millions of our people to work as we rebuild it.”
Pelosi said she would pray for Trump, who she congratulated, and thanked Clinton. “We are inspired by her, thank her and know that she will continue to be a magnificent force for good in our country,” Pelosi said.
