'The Boss' Springsteen pleads guilty to one charge in DUI case and faces $500 fine

Singer Bruce Springsteen pleaded guilty on Wednesday to consuming alcohol in a closed area and will be fined $500 plus fees, according to the star’s representatives.

His DUI and reckless driving charges were dropped, according to a statement from the artist’s representatives.

“Mr. Springsteen is pleased with the outcome of today’s court appearance,” the statement said.

“The prosecutor was unable to provide the necessary evidence and facts as it related to the charge of Driving under the Influence (DUI) and Reckless Driving and therefore, dismissed both of those charges,” the statement added. “We want to thank the Court and will have no further comment at this time.”

Springsteen does not have a criminal record and voluntarily pleaded guilty. The musician was arrested at a recreation area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, on Nov. 14 and was cited on accusations of reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area.

The “Born in the U.S.A.” singer appeared for his trial over a Zoom call in a New Jersey enclave court with Magistrate Judge Anthony Mautone that was closed to the media. Shortly before the trial ended, reports emerged of the dropped charges and agreed fine payment by the artist.

The November 2020 charges against Springsteen did not emerge in public until Feb. 10, days after a Jeep Super Bowl commercial featured the New Jersey native.
