PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. (AP) — Have you had it with those annoying, prerecorded phone pitches?

A freelance software developer on Long Island says he has the remedy.

Aaron Foss of Port Jefferson is among the winners of a Federal Trade Commission contest to develop technology that blocks robocalls.

Foss said Wednesday that his device can tell it’s a computer calling, and hang up on it.

He hopes to start selling it to the public in about six months. He’s using his $25,000 prize as startup money.

Foss says his admirers are calling him “a hero.”
