This morning, on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Paul Ryan blasted the president for not doing what needs to be done to avert a crisis. “The president is just unwilling to go anywhere close to the kind of spending cuts we’re going to have to have if we want to avert a debt crisis,” Ryan said.

“The president’s proposing we spend $46 trillion over the next ten years. With the debt limit increase, we’re saying ‘let’s spend 43 and a half.’ That’s not asking a lot over a 10 year period. And it will be a small down payment on what will be necessary to prevent a debt crisis. And the president won’t even do that.”

Ryan argued that Obama has shown a leadership deficit. “So, what we have here is a lack of leadership from the White House on what we know is mathematically necessary to fix this problem.”
