Caps 2, Panthers 0
Probably could have been 4-0. Alex Semin and Tomas Fleischmann both scored for Washington. Semin (wrist) is playing his first game since Nov. 14. Bruce Boudreau said before the game he didn’t know what to expect from his mercurial winger. Well, it appears Good Alex is on the ice tonight. As for Fleischmann, he last scored in that Saturday game at New Jersey on Nov. 14.
It was goal No. 10 for Semin in 19 games. Flash is at 8 in 17 games. Milan Jurcina and Alexandre Giroux both missed golden chances to extend that lead and the Caps didn’t score on consecutive power plays. Putting teams away has been an issue this season. We’ll see if that rears it’s ugly head again. Shots were 18-6 Washington – not unexpected considering the Panthers just played last night in Sunrise. It took just 11 shots for Washington to knock out Florida goalie Scott Clemmensen. AHL callup Alexander Salak is now in goal while starter Tomas Vokoun recuperates from the cut ear he suffered at the hands of teammate Keith Ballard’s two-handed swing on Monday. Youtube that one if you somehow missed it this week. Ballard was angry about giving up a goal. There are probably better ways to show your frustration than sending your star goalie off on a stretcher. Good times!
