The Border Patrol Foundation, a national nonprofit that honors fallen agents and raises financial support for their families, plans to hold its annual dinner at the Trump International Hotel in D.C. this October.
The organization announced Friday afternoon its 10th annual recognition dinner will take place Oct. 16 at President Trump’s property, which is located half a mile from the White House.
The foundation has held previous years’ events at the Army Navy Club, the Mayflower Hotel, and the JW Marriott hotels in the region.
Border Patrol Foundation executive director Shannon Staples said the organization picked the Trump hotel this year based on logistics and costs associated with the dinner.
“Each year we solicit bids and make our decision based on location, price and the size of the venue,” Staples said in an email to the Washington Examiner. “The Trump Hotel was very competitive in terms of what we were looking for.”
This year’s dinner is expected to be the organization’s largest yet with up to 400 guests, including families of fallen agents. This event honors the agents and their families, and recognizes the work of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection component’s nearly 20,000 personnel.
Single government tickets are $115 each and corporate tickets run at $650.
Border Patrol has not seen any line-of-duty deaths since Oct. 1, 2017, the beginning of fiscal 2018. Since 1924, a total of 124 agents have died while on the job.
