WATCH: Chris Christie says Jan. 6 was ‘a riot that was incited by Donald Trump’

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told ABC News he didn’t know why former Vice President Mike Pence waited so long to address his inability to change the results of the 2020 election through the certification process.

“I think the actions the vice president took on Jan. 6 spoke loudly, and I’m glad he’s finally put words to it. I don’t know why it took him so long,” Christie told This Week co-host Martha Raddatz.

“Jan. 6 was a riot that was incited by Donald Trump in an effort to intimidate Mike Pence and the Congress into doing exactly what he said in his own words last week — overturn the election.”

Last Friday, Pence said “President Trump is wrong” during a Federalist Society conference speech.

“Under the Constitution, I had no right to change the outcome of our election.”

In a Feb. 4 statement responding to Pence’s remarks, former President Donald Trump said, “Well, the vice president’s position is not an automatic conveyor if obvious signs of voter fraud or irregularities exist.”

Christie supported Trump’s candidacy in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. He was even rumored to be a contender for a Cabinet position. Since then, Christie has changed his tune, criticizing the former president on multiple occasions.

Previously, Christie told Hugh Hewitt on The Hugh Hewitt Show that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of running for president in 2024, even if it was against Trump.
