ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Three schools in the Hudson Valley have won $1.5 million in state funds to students connect with health care, public services and community programs.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the grants Friday. They’ll go to two schools in Newburgh and one in Peekskill.
Each will receive $500,000 for programs offering services like nutritional counseling, immigration and housing support and health care.
The grants are intended to create partnerships between schools in “distressed” communities and local social service agencies to help vulnerable students get the help they need.
Cuomo says the grants help schools become true community institutions that offer a range of services to disadvantaged children.
