Biden fundraising plateaus with $140M haul in July

Joe Biden’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised $140 million last month as they seek to close the cash gap between President Trump and the Republican National Committee.

The efforts of Biden’s team and his affiliated fundraising groups in July mean they now have $294 million in the bank, an increase of $50 million since the last financial disclosure deadline of June 30, according to his camp.

Trump and the RNC announced shortly afterward that they raised $165 million during the same time period, with a $300 million war chest. That amount outpaces their Democratic counterparts by roughly $25 million after two consecutive months trailing their rivals.

July’s figures are not only a record for the month, but also eclipse the total raised in any single month of 2016, they said in a statement.

Biden, the two-term vice president and presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee, touted his haul during a fundraiser on Wednesday.

“We’ve raised more money than anybody thought we’d ever raise — we raised almost $140 million just last month. We already raised about $18 million this month,” he told donors.

Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon added in a statement 97% of contributions were from small-dollar donors for an average online contribution of $34.77.

Biden’s July intake almost matches his June filings. Last month, Biden and the DNC raised $141 million, building on May’s $80.8 million.

In June, Trump and his allies brought in $131 million, with $295 million in their coffers.
