Recession Regression

This is one of those cartoons where I wanted to make a comment more about American culture — specifically, our consumer culture — than the economic stimulus package. Part of the reason we’re experiencing hard times, I believe, is because Americans have become so carefree with their spending and credit habits. Nowadays, it seems to be all about glitz, glamour and just plain old stuff.

New iPhone?
Are you kidding?! Of course! Everyone’s getting one, and you’re not someone until you have one!
High-def TV set?
Only the best on the market — plasma, too! I gotta be able to see all the snazzy ads telling me what I have to buy next.
Did you pay for all of that stuff with cash?
By “cash” I assume you mean “credit card.” You bet! Had to use my AMEX, though, after my four others got maxed out.
All I can say is “wow.” Wow.

You know it, baby! Livin’ large in my crib!
