Burger King appeared to slight Chick-fil-A last week by starting a fundraiser for its Ch’King chicken sandwich, revealing it will donate 40 cents for each item sold to the largest organization for gay and transgender rights, the Human Rights Campaign.
The Thursday announcement was subtle, but apparent to anyone familiar with Chick-fil-A’s hours of operation, as Burger King posted on Twitter: “during #pride month (even on Sundays) your chicken sandwich craving can do good! we are making a donation* to for every Ch’King sold.”
Chick-fil-A, a closed-on-Sunday chicken sandwich restaurant chain, has faced consistent attacks from secular angles regarding its view of gay and transgender issues.
Chick-fil-A’s CEO Dan Cathy has expressed opposition to same-sex marriage in past remarks and has allegedly donated to the National Christian Charitable Foundation, an organization that opposed the passage of the Equality Act.

Several media outlets saw Burger King’s tweet as a complete jab at Chick-fil-A. The Kansas City Star wrote Burger King was taking a “swipe at Chick-fil-A this LGBTQ Pride month.”
Some top figures on the Right took offense to the viral marketing from Burger King, including former President Donald Trump‘s campaign employee Steve Cortes, who said, “This corporation makes it clear it mocks Christians (and other religious people) and doesn’t want our business. So be it.”

Burger King’s fundraiser began last Thursday and will continue through June 30, donating 40 cents for each sandwich sold and up to $250,000 for HRC.
