I have gobs of housing market ideas scattered throughout my sketchbook, but this image popped into my head a few days ago. The concept of houses falling like leaves from a tree jumped out at me as being both a dynamic visual and having layers of meaning. I think it does a good job representing the ailing market and how it’s part of the larger economy. But the image also raises the question of whether all of this is cyclical. Maybe it’s just a long “market correction” that comes along every decade or so? No matter what, it’s undeniable many Americans are being affected by the slump.
I’ll be in Columbus, Ohio, (my hometown) the next few days while attending OSU’s Festival of Cartoon Art, which occurs every three years. It’s a wonderful — and very educational — event that I haven’t missed since my first one in 1998. So, look for me back at the drawing board next Monday!
