Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich anticipates Donald Trump’s poll numbers will continue to improve leading up to the November 8 election, while rival Hillary Clinton continues to lose ground.
“My prediction is that it will get better for Trump. It will get worse for Clinton. And to the degree that Trump stays focused on two things: sticking with the teleprompter, which he does as well as anybody I’ve ever seen, and he’s making his points, and he’s coming across very, very effectively. And, second, continuing to do things that are bold,” Gingrich told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
The Trump surrogate applauded the billionaire businessman for his “tremendous comeback” following the Democratic National Convention, when Clinton made major gains in various national polls.
Gingrich specifically credited Trump for visiting Louisiana’s flood victims, while Clinton participated in private fundraisers with celebrities on Long Island. He said it was bold for Trump to have accepted the Mexican president’s invitiation to meet and then handle the joint press conference so diplomatically.
“It was bold to go to Detroit. By the way, it was very bold to go to Youngstown, Ohio, the largest county fair in Ohio is in Youngstown,” Gingrich said. “Youngstown is historically a very democratic base. He had huge crowds. He and Mike Pence were there together. They had huge crowds in Youngstown. If Trump carries eastern Ohio by the margins they are building, he’s going to carry the state.”
Gingrich added Trump’s growing numbers in toss-up states is good news for congressional Republicans up for election in Ohio, Maine and Iowa.
