Severe weather tore its way through eight states Wednesday, with tornado watches still in effect for parts of several states through the night.
A possible tornado touched down in Springdale, Arkansas, at roughly 4 a.m. Wednesday. A total of seven people, two of whom are in critical condition, have been taken to area hospitals, with no fatalities reported so far, according to a statement from Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse on social media.
“We are mobilizing volunteers and resources to help our residents over the coming days and weeks that have been impacted by this storm,” Sprouse’s statement reads. “Several area churches, businesses, and individuals have reached out to see how they can help.”

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson wrote on social media that he had communicated with Sprouse and the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management about the storms. He also said some school buildings in Springdale were damaged from the storms, though no students were inside at the time.

In addition to Arkansas, tornado watches were announced by the National Weather Service in northern Louisiana, east Texas, and southeast Oklahoma early Wednesday morning, with additional watches announced for Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana in the afternoon. The tornado watches are expected to stay in effect through Wednesday night, according to ABC News.

The probability of tornadoes Wednesday night in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Arkansas is 15%. In Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana, the chances of a tornado are between 2% and 5%, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
