WACU reported that a piece of engine shrapnel flew into and broke a passenger window, creating an opening that began sucking a female passenger out of the plane. The woman had to be pulled back in by other passengers.

The Boeing 737-700 jet was carrying 143 passengers and five crew members aboard and was traveling from New York to Dallas when the plane made its emergency landing in Philadelphia.

“Safety is always our top priority at Southwest Airlines,” Southwest said in a statement on Twitter. “We are working diligently to support our Customers and Crews at this time. We will share updates to the flight as they are confirmed.”

Fox 29 reports that ten people were injured including one passenger that was sent to the hospital in critical condition with head trauma.

The incident comes after another airline, Allegiant Air, has faced close scrutiny for its alleged poor safety practices following CBS News “60 Minutes” report that aired Sunday night.
