The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the D.C. area.
The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. and covers the District, much of Maryland and northern Virginia, as well as parts of surrounding states.
“Hail to one inch in diameter … thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph … and dangerous lightening are possible in these areas,” according to the watch.
