Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said both President Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should have known not to get involved with foreign entities last year, amid reports that both campaigns contacted foreign groups.
“Well, I would say that both sides are at fault here,” Manchin said Thursday on CNN. “Everyone around should know that the game rules. The rules are, you can’t be involved with foreign entities.”
“I don’t think he’s an American citizen,” Manchin added when asked if Christopher Steele, the author of the Trump dossier, counts as a foreign entity.
This week, it was revealed that the CEO of the data analytics firm hired by the Trump campaign reached out to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange about Hillary Clinton’s emails.
Additionally, it was disclosed Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund the research that resulted in the so-called “Trump dossier,” authored by Steele, that contained scandalous material tying President Trump to Russia, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
