Shaone Morrisonn – Businessman

Caps defenseman Shaone Morrisonn is no dummy. The Vancouver native is renting out his own townhouse in West Vancouver for what will amount to about $30,000 over three weeks. A nice Japanese family – for $1,100 a night – will get to spend three weeks in Morrisonn’s place. He had originally planned to head out of town to avoid the hordes of tourists headed for the city. But instead he’ll camp out at his other residence in Kits – near the beach. Morrisonn joked if he changes his mind and wants to go to Hawaii he’s already halfway there.

“It’s very tough. There’s no accommodations,” Morrisonn said. “Hotels have been booked for three, four years. They jacked the prices up. They’re estimating six million people coming into the city. And right now the downtown core is 600,00 or 700,000 people. Maybe the surrounding area has 1.2 or 1.3 million. Traffic is bad already. They’re blocking off downtown, too, so if you’re working a regular job you’re going to be taking shuttles or other transportation. Plus with all the fans and everything. And they say they’re going to keep all the bars and restaurants open 24 hours. So it’s going to be insane.”
