A woman was abducted Friday morning while jogging near the University of Memphis, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Eliza Fletcher, 34, was last seen in a pair of purple jogging shorts and a pink top at around 4:20 a.m., when she was pushed into an SUV by an “unknown individual,” Memphis police said in a press release. Her items have been recovered, but Fletcher is still missing, officials added.

“Upon arriving on the scene, officers were advised that a female was jogging in the area at approximately 4:20 a.m. when an unknown individual approached her,” police said. “The female was reportedly forced into an SUV and taken from the scene.”

The suspect, a man in a dark-colored vehicle, was traveling westbound on Central Avenue, according to the department. Police were notified of Fletcher’s disappearance at 7:45 a.m. after she failed to return from her jog. She is approximately 5’6″ and 137 pounds with brown hair and green eyes, according to the release.

Fletcher was a teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School, and she often jogged in the area, according to Fox 13 Memphis. In a letter to students Friday, the head of the school, Albert Throckmorton, said he hoped Fletcher was safe.

“We join the Fletcher and Wellford families in praying for Liza’s safety,” the letter said. “We have not told our younger students about Mrs. Fletcher. We are supporting the older students as they learn of this news.”

The police have urged anyone with information to call 911 immediately. The FBI and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the search.
