Underway here at Kettler Capitals Iceplex as Caps prepare for tomorrow’s home game with the New York Islanders. Star left wing Alex Ovechkin (upper-body strain) is not on the ice. He skated before practice alongside injured defenseman Jeff Schultz (lower-body injury). Everyone else – save forward Michael Nylander, of course – is accounted for. Hope to have news on Nylander later. The Caps were working on some kind of deal to move Nylander and his $4.875 million salary-cap hit yesterday. We’ll see if anything panned out. Washington general manager George McPhee is in Toronto for the NHL General Manager meetings so we’ll try and get him by phone later in the day.
Forward Alex Semin is also on the ice after leaving practice early yesterday. His injury is believed to be a sore wrist, though McPhee would not confirm that on Monday. Lines are the same as yesterday – with Boyd Gordon (back) attached to the third line with Chris Clark, Mathieu Perreault and Eric Fehr. More in a bit…
