James Comey, Andrew McCabe getting a taste ‘of their own medicine’: Trump tweets

Former FBI Director James Comey and his former deputy, Andrew McCabe, are getting a taste of “their own medicine,” said President Trump Thursday.

His terse tweet, which came a couple hours after Comey’s latest book tour interview, also said the recently-released Justice Department Inspector General report was a “disaster” for both former FBI officials.

“James Comey just threw Andrew McCabe ‘under the bus.’ Inspector General’s Report on McCabe is a disaster for both of them! Getting a little (lot) of their own medicine?” Trump tweeted.

Less than three hours prior, Comey told CNN’s Jake Tapper that it was possible he could testify against McCabe in a criminal trial, after it was revealed the DOJ IG submitted a referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office to criminally charge McCabe.

Comey also said that he is “conflicted” about McCabe because he is fond of him, but also said it’s “not acceptable” for an FBI official to lie. “I like him very much as a person, but sometimes even good people do things they shouldn’t do,” Comey said told CNN anchor Jake Tapper.

The IG report, released last week, concluded that McCabe “lacked candor” in four instances, three of which were situations where he was under oath.

McCabe has pushed back against the watchdog’s findings and fired back at Comey on Wednesday after he referred to the report’s conclusions about McCabe.

“Comey has relied on the accuracy and the soundness of the Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) conclusions in their report on Mr. McCabe. In fact, the report fails to adequately address the evidence (including sworn testimony) and documents that prove that Mr. McCabe advised Director Comey repeatedly that he was working with the Wall Street Journal on the stories in question prior to publication,” said Michael Bromwich, counsel for McCabe.

McCabe was fired last month by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Comey said earlier this week that he authorized the investigation that ultimately prompted McCabe’s ouster.

Trump’s tweet Thursday is his latest swing at the federal law enforcement structure and people who have worked there. Last week, he condemned federal investigators after the home and office of his personal lawyer Michael Cohen were raided by the FBI.
