BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — A Virginia businessman accused of helping a woman flee the country with her daughter so that she could avoid sharing custody with her former partner faces arraignment.
Philip Zodhiates (zoh-dee-AH’-tihs) is scheduled to be appear in federal court in Buffalo Wednesday on charges he brought Lisa Miller from Virginia to Buffalo in 2009 and helped her and daughter Isabella cross the border into Canada.
Lisa Miller renounced homosexuality after ending the civil union she entered with Janet Jenkins in Vermont in 2000. She’s believed to be in Central America.
Zodhiates and Miller, along with a Mennonite missionary, were charged in a federal indictment last month with international parental kidnapping and conspiracy. Only Zodhiates is believed to be in the country.
He couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.
