Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, the man believed to be behind the bombings in New York and New Jersey over the weekend, is reportedly in custody following a shootout with police in Linden, N.J.
According to a local ABC affiliate, Rahami was shot several times before being taken into custody and is now en route to hospital. Two police officers were hurt in the shootout, but neither sustained life-threatening injuries.
Rahami was allegedly discovered sleeping in the walkway of a bar in Linden, and the owner called police. When police arrived, a shootout ensued.
According to the FBI’s official wanted poster, Rahami is a naturalized U.S. citizen of Afghan descent.
Law enforcement reportedly raided a home in Elizabeth, N.J. early Monday morning where Rahami either currently lives or used to live.
Twenty-nine people were injured in the New York City neighborhood bombing on Saturday night.
In the Seaside Park incident, an explosion occurred in a garbage can near a Marine Corps charity run. No one was injured in that explosion.
In Elizabeth, N.J., a backpack containing multiple bombs was found near a train station on Sunday night. As a bomb squad was attempting to disarm one of the five devices found in the bag in a trash can around 8:20 p.m. Sunday night, it exploded. There was no immediate report of injuries or damage.
Law enforcement officials told CNN on Monday the investigation into the New York and New Jersey bombings shows signs of a possible terror cell operating in the two states.
