Visa holders take jobs away from U.S. citizens Re: “High court boosts common sense on immigration,” Editorial, June 7

I look forward to reading The Examiner every morning, and agreed with everything in this editorial — until the last paragraph. We do not need more immigrants to take more jobs from Americans. This country is swamped with U.S. citizens and current college graduates with degrees who cannot find jobs.

The reason H-1B visas are in such high demand is because some of the biggest requestors of them — such as Microsoft, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, etc. — make a point of finding some small obscure reason why an American citizen cannot fill the job. That’s all they are required to do under the current laws, and no one questions them.

Immigrants who fill those positions have to stay in the same job for three to six years with opportunities for extensions, so employers don’t have to worry about promoting or retraining workers for at least seven years. But they are scamming the system by not hiring American citizens first, which could be verified by an audit. When did profit become more important than our great country?

White House had no flags flying for Bibi

Re: “Obama takes Merkel out for pre-state dinner dinner,” June 6

I couldn’t help but notice the German flags flying high over Pennsylvania Avenue. Being new to D.C., I imagine this is a customary show of unity any time the premier of a close ally is in town, as Chancellor Angela Merkel was.

In January, I saw just as many Chinese flags flying on the same street (conjuring up memories of the classic Cold War flick “Red Dawn”) for visiting President Hu Jintao. Then I suddenly remembered that there were no flags during Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu’s visit.

Red China has brutally suppressed all political opposition and free press for decades, committed an untold number of grave human rights violations, sustains a brutal occupation in Tibet, and uses violence, torture and executions on a massive scale to sustain one repressive regime after another — and we fly their flag on the street that connects our White House and Capitol.

But we won’t fly the Israeli flag when the representative of our closest democratic ally comes to visit?

Taxpayers will be left holding empty stimulus feedbag

Re: “Obama skirts rules to reward pals, punish foes,” May 24

Michael Barone’s article leaves me, an American taxpayer, wary of the role being played by President Obama’s top stimulus watchdog: the Recovery Independent Advisory Panel.

The RIAP has the power to influence the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board’s pursuit of fraud, waste and abuse of stimulus funds, yet it has received no media scrutiny even though three of four panel members have impressive ties to the Democrat Party, conveniently omitted from their Recovery.gov resumes. The fifth member is absent from the scene because of President Obama’s inability — or lack of interest — in making the appointment.

The word “independent” applies to the RIAP as much as the phrase “transparency” applies to the granting of Obamacare waivers. Before the stimulus smoke clears, the 2012 term limits of both the RAT Board and RIAP will have expired, leaving no one but taxpayers holding the empty bag.
