Trump: ‘Dishonest media’ created Star of David flap

Donald Trump said the “dishonest media” is trying to make a sheriff’s star out to be the Star of David.

“Dishonest media is trying their absolute best to depict a star in a tweet as the Star of David rather than a Sheriff’s Star, or plain star!” Trump said in a Monday message on Twitter.

The comment follows a controversy in which a retweeted message on the candidate’s account featured a six-pointed star adjacent to an image of Hillary Clinton. “Most corrupt candidate ever!” said text inside the star.

Critics have suggested the star was the Jewish Star of David. Trump subsequently deleted the tweet, replacing the image with a circle.

Trump advisor Ed Brookover said on CNN’s “New Day” Monday that “there was never any intention” of anti-Semitism in the tweet. “There’s no anti-Semitism in Mr. Trump’s body, not one ounce, not one cell,” he said, adding later, “Not every six-sided star is a Star of David.”
