A 33-year-old Upper Marlboro man was killed after losing control of his Corvette in the Third Street Tunnel late Sunday, D.C. police said.

It happened around 11:45 p.m., just north of the South Capitol Street exit. The sports car was traveling south when the driver tried to pass another car and lost control, police said. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and died.

Police are investigating the possibility that the driver was racing another vehicle. They are waiting to notify the victim’s family before releasing his identity.
