Cory Booker: I had a ‘private conversation’ with Ivanka Trump

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., revealed he spoke privately with Ivanka Trump after the election.

“I had a private conversation with her once at the Alfalfa dinner,” Booker said in an interview that aired Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I saw her and had a very brief conversation.”

The Alfalfa Club dinner, an annual soiree attended by influential business executives and politicians, was attended by Ivanka Trump days after her father’s inauguration.

When asked what he would say to the president’s daughter, Booker pivoted the conversation to America’s divided political climate.

“We are having problems talking to each other across a lot of the lines that we have. And people dismiss somebody just because they are a Democrat, dismiss somebody just because they are a Republican,” he said.

“There are millions and millions of good Democrats, millions and millions of good Republicans who are Americans. Ninety-nine percent of us are good people.”

Booker attended Trump and Jared Kushner’s wedding in 2009. Trump held a fundraising event for the Democrat at her New York home in 2013 when he launched his Senate bid.
