ROME, N.Y. (AP) — Dive operations have been suspended on a central New York lake in the search for a 32-year-old man who disappeared while trying to a save his teenage step-son from drowning.

William Cook of Camden was last seen diving into Lake Delta in an attempt to help the 14-year-old after the boy had trouble staying afloat while swimming in the lake last week.

The teenager was saved by another boat. Rescue attempts were made to save Cook, but were unsuccessful.

Oneida County Sheriff’s deputies say divers have encountered low visibility and 38-degree temperatures in waters over 50 feet deep.

Marine units will continue to patrol the lake daily. Anyone with any information or possible sightings of Cook are urged to contact 911.
