D.C.’s sports allegiances aren’t local, either

In a region that boasts more out-of-towners than locals, some of Washington’s sports teams face a disadvantage when it comes to recruiting new fans. “People are so connected to the teams where they’re born and where they come from, so no matter where they are they’ll follow that team,” said Tim Richardson, a sports marketing expert and vice president of Maroon PR in Columbia.
