It really is sad how cynical everyone’s become about doping in sports. Unfortunately, athletes aren’t doing a whole heck of a lot to change that; in fact, they seem to always exacerbate it. I was brought up to believe cheating is wrong and dishonorable, so all of these “enhanced” athletes have my contempt.
In my original sketch for this cartoon, I placed the sculpture in a museum with framed paintings hanging on walls in the background. I changed the setup while drawing the final version because I thought the background would getin the way. It would have been fun to draw a Pollock or Mondrian hanging on the walls, but my instinct is to leave out anything that doesn’t aid the message and pacing of the cartoon.
OK, without immediately Googling or Wikipedia-ing the answer, who knows the real name of the sculpture I’m referencing here? I had to look it up. (My first guess was wrong.)
