The communications director for Donald Trump’s caucus operations team reportedly resigned from his position on Monday, hours after he mocked Corey Lewandowski for being fired as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s campaign manager.
Following a report announcing Lewandowski’s abrupt dismissal from the Trump campaign, Michael Caputo tweeted “Ding Dong the witch is dead” with a link to the “Wizard of Oz” song.

“I regret sending out a tweet today alluding to the firing of Corey Lewandowski,” Caputo wrote in a letter to campaign chairman Paul Manafort, which was obtained by CNN. “In hindsight, that was too exuberant a reaction to this personnel move.”
He continued, “I know this is a distraction from the kind of campaign you want to run, so I’m resigning my position as director of communications for caucus operations at the 2016 Republican Convention. Let’s make this immediate.”
According to his Twitter bio, which he has since updated, Caputo also served as director of Trump’s New York campaign operation.
Lewandowski responded to Caputo during an interview on Monday, claiming he had “no formal role with the campaign.”
“I don’t know what he does on the campaign,” Lewandowski told CNN.
In his letter of resignation, Caputo praised Manafort, who Lewandowski described as having been in “operational control of the campaign since April 7.”
“With you at the helm, I know he can. Call if I can help,” Caputo wrote.
