JACKSONVILLE, Texas (AP) — Investigators say skeletal remains found in March near the Angelina National Forest have been identified as an East Texas woman reported missing in 2006.
The San Augustine Sheriff’s Office on Friday announced the remains are of 26-year-old Shunte Coleman of Jacksonville.
A forester on March 12 discovered the remains in a heavily wooded area near an intersection. DNA testing was used to identify the woman.
The sheriff’s department did not immediately provide a possible cause of death for Coleman, who was reported missing in August 2006 by a relative.
Jacksonville police Chief Reece Daniel says Coleman’s case as a missing person has been cleared. He declined further comment on the investigation involving several law enforcement agencies.
