Shuttle Atlantis makes pit stop in San Antonio

The NASA Boeing 747 carrying the space shuttle Atlantis from California back to Florida made a refueling stop in San Antonio on Tuesday.

The jet carrying the shuttle arrived at Lackland Air Force Base on Monday morning after spending the night at Biggs Army Air Field in El Paso. The tandem was to leave San Antonio before noon en route to Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, then to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The shuttle landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California on May 24 after poor weather scrubbed the planned landing at Cape Canaveral, Fla.
