Mayor Adrian Fenty continues to stand by outspoken supporter Ron Moten and his nonprofit gang intervention group Peaceoholics even as the D.C. Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services prepares a $400,000 no-bid contract for the group.

The Washington Examiner reported Tuesday that DYRS is preparing to write Peaceoholics a check, a year after the D.C. City Council canceled similar no-bid contracts for Moten’s group. Moten, meanwhile, has continued to beat the drum for Fenty, even answering questions about Fenty’s rejection of a council bill that would have changed election laws for the Sept. 14 primary.

Tuesday afternoon, Fenty held court with reporters outside Carmine’s following New York City Mayor Bloomberg’s endorsing the mayor for a second term.

“I know DYRS will continue to hire [Peaceoholics] as long as they keep doing a good job,” Fenty said.
