Trump to speak at NRA convention

President Trump is expected to appear Friday at the National Rifle Association’s upcoming convention in Dallas, Texas.

A White House official told the Associated Press the president will attend the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, which starts Thursday and runs through Sunday. Trump joins Vice President Mike Pence, who was already set to appear at the annual event.

Trump’s appearance Friday marks his third consecutive year at the conference. His speech there will follow a meeting at the White House on Thursday with members of the church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, where 26 people were killed in November.

The president called for changes to the nation’s gun laws following the Feb. 14 shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla. Though he has a strong relationship with the NRA, Trump told senators in March they’re “afraid” of the gun organization.

A White House spokesperson told CNN the White House is “finalizing exact details” for the appearance Friday.
