FLINT, Mich. (AP) — A prosecutor has filed charges against five people he says participated in a string of 17 armed robberies of banks and other businesses in the Flint area over 33 months.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Thursday that the robberies happened in Flint, Flint Township and Mount Morris Township. He says the arrest of suspects in a Citizens Bank robbery in Flint Township helped solve the cases.

Leyton’s office says the robbery string began July 30, 2010, and ended March 13, 2013.

Leyton says the five suspects are relatives, ranging from 22 to 46 years old. He calls the crime spree a “family business.”

Four of the suspects are in jail or prison, and police are seeking the fifth. Their arraignments are being scheduled.
