Federal immigration officials are preparing to start a number of raids targeting illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. in the last two years and evaded deportation orders, according to a new report.
The Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement are expected to start the raids over the next few weeks.
Authorities have not disclosed the number of people they will go after, but have said they will focus on recent entrants. Previous raids have focused on people who have lived illegally in the U.S. for a longer period. Unaccompanied minors may not be exempt from the busts.
On Wednesday, ICE announced the arrests of 84 criminal illegal aliens. All of those arrested had been convicted of other crimes beyond initial immigration charges.
The immigration agency is expected to release a statement Thursday evening announcing the upcoming raids.
