Trump: Republican convention speaking slots ‘filled’

Donald Trump sought Saturday to tamp down reports of behind-the-scenes turmoil at the Repubican National Convention in Cleveland this month. In a tweet, he said all of the speakers for the event had been picked, but did not reveal who they were.

“The speakers slots at the Republican Convention are totally filled, with a long waiting list of those that want to speak — Wednesday release,” Trump said.

The announcement follows on the news that both former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the party’s previous two nominees, would not be attending the event, an unusual break with tradition. Romney additionally said he does not intend to vote for Trump in the fall. Other prominent Republicans remain opposed to the 2016 candidate.
