URANIA, La. (AP) — A German company says construction will begin soon on a wood pellet plant in central Louisiana.

An announcement posted Wednesday on the German Pellets GmbH website says the plant will be able to produce about 1.1 million tons of pellets a year in U.S. measurements. The pellets are used for fuel.

The Louisiana Public Facilities Authority approved $300 million in bonds for Louisiana Pellets Inc. in December.

A statement on the German Pellets Group website says the plant will be on a site where Georgia Pacific made particleboard and other products.

Urania is in LaSalle Parish, between Alexandria and Monroe.

German Pellets GmbH is headquartered in Wismar, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
