Ryan Budget Passes House

The 2013 budget written by Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin sailed through the House on Thursday afternoon by a vote of 228 to 191. There were 10 Republican defections–up from four last year. Some Republicans who flip-flopped on the Ryan budget said the budget needed to cut more spending. This year’s budget actually cuts more spending in the short-term than last year’s budget did, and it incorporated some elements of the bipartisan Medicare reform endorsed by Democratic senator Ron Wyden of Oregon.

Via Guy Benson, here’s a video of Paul Ryan at the top of his game defending his Medicare reform against Obama’s plan to have bureaucrats ration Medicare:

Update: As for the House Democrats’ budget, authored by ranking Budget Committee member Chris Van Hollen, it failed 163 to 262–with 22 Democrats defecting.

The Congressional Black Caucus budget got 107 votes last night. The “Simpson-Bowles” budget proposed by Republican Steven LaTourette and Democrat Jim Cooper got 38 votes. And President Obama’s budget got 0 votes.
