Trump: Chuck Schumer is ‘leading Democrats to doom’

President Trump called Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer a “bad leader” during a rally Saturday, criticizing the Democrat from New York for not supporting his policies on illegal immigration, and saying he is “leading Democrats to doom.”

“Schumer is weak on crime and wants to raise your taxes through the roof,” he said.

Speaking at a rally in Harrisburg, Pa., to mark his 100 days in the Oval Office, Trump touted his policies on illegal immigration and the reduction in illegal border crossings recorded since he took office. He criticized Democrats for opposing his proposal to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Sen. Schumer is a bad leader, not a natural leader at all,” he said. “He works hard to study leadership. When you have to study leadership you’ve got problems.”

Trump said Schumer’s policies were “hurting innocent Americans that make it easier for drug dealers to enter our country,” and said Democrats “don’t mind illegals coming in, they don’t mind drugs pouring in.”

“Members of Congress who will be voting on border security have a simple choice: They can either vote to help drug cartels or criminal aliens trying to enter the United States, like, frankly, the Democrats are doing, or they can vote to help American citizens and American families be safe,” he said. “That’s the choice. Who do you want to represent you?”

He assured the crowd that the wall would be built.

“Don’t even worry about it,” he said of his promise to build a wall. “Go home, go to sleep. Rest assured.”

Members of the Trump administration recently offered to exchange funding federal insurance payments under Obamacare in exchange for funds to build the wall as part of a short-term spending bill. Democrats refused the deal.
