The D.C. government is putting special precautions in place for the coming three-day heat wave. D.C. public pools will open an hour earlier and stay open an hour later Thursday through Saturday, and the city’s DMV shifted its inspection hours for the end of the week. From Thursday to Friday, the inspection station will open at 5 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. — before temperatures reach their peak. Temperatures are expected to top 100 degrees Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and high humidity will make it feel like 110 to 115 degrees outside, according to Brian Lasorsa, a spokesman for the National Weather Service. “Near-record heat and very high humidity — it’s going to be a very nasty effect,” he said. – Amy Myers
