Supreme Court throws out GOP redistricting challenge

The Supreme Court unanimously shot down Virginia Republicans’ challenge to the state’s redistricting plan.

The court ruled Monday that the three House lawmakers didn’t have standing to challenge a 2013 redistricting plan an earlier court found unconstitutional because it resulted in racial gerrymandering.

The justices unanimously agreed that the lawmakers didn’t have any injury, which is needed to sue. For one thing, the three lawmakers in the case Wittman v. Person Huballah don’t represent the district that was being withdrawn.

The three lawmakers are Reps. Rob Wittman, David Brat and Randy Forbes.
