Booker quotes Bon Jovi to Clinton: ‘You give love a good name’

Campaigning with Hillary Clinton and Jon Bon Jovi in New Jersey, Democratic Sen. Cory Booker offered the Democratic front-runner some praise from the rock star’s songbook.

“I hate to contradict Bon Jovi but, dear God, Hillary Clinton you give love a good name,” Booker said in Newark on Wednesday. While Bon Jovi was at the event with Clinton and Booker, the singer did not perform for voters.

The New Jersey senator continued to fawn over Clinton, later comparing her career to the Maya Angelou poem “Still I Rise.” Before reading a verse of the poem, Booker told voters that the poem may as well have been “written about [Clinton].”

As Booker read the verse the crowds cheered loudly and Clinton laughed. The Democratic front-runner has often invoked Angelou on the campaign trail, repeating “when somebody tells you who they are, believe them,” in reference to Donald Trump.

Clinton praised Booker after his introduction, saying that she was “honored” to be introduced by both him and Bon Jovi, whom she called “two New Jersey giants.” The Clinton campaign has yet to release a list of possible vice presidential running mates, but many Democrats believe that Booker is being considered for the position.

“He’s a very special senator but he’s also a very special person,” Clinton said of Booker. “I’m so proud to have his support, He’s travelled for me across this country. So thank you, thank you my dear friend.”

As Clinton praised Booker he appeared to be taking a selfie on his iPhone from the stage.

New Jersey Democrats vote on June 7, with Clinton leading her opponent Bernie Sanders 55-38 according to the RealClearPolitics averages.
