Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says his city has been hit hardest by the economic downtown and must take advantage of any funds it can get from the federal government.

Bing spoke Tuesday at the National Summit, a conference in Detroit on the future of manufacturing, technology, energy and the environment.

Bing later told The Associated Press that Detroit can’t expect to increase its revenue stream so federal money is necessary to help pull the city through the financial crisis.

Tuesday is the second day of the three-day National Summit , which is expected to draw nearly 3,000 attendees from the public and private sector. The goal of the summit is to craft a plan to keep the U.S. competitive in manufacturing, energy, technology and the environment.
