Fox News anchor Chris Wallace asked a senior adviser to the Trump campaign how the president’s team plans to turn the campaign around following weeks of dismal polls.
During an interview on Fox News Sunday, Wallace told Jason Miller that Trump is “losing.” He cited the recent replacement of Trump’s campaign adviser Brad Parscale and the decision to halt many television advertisements as signals that Trump’s reelection bid is floundering.
“Despite what you say about the Biden campaign, the fact is it is the Trump campaign that just replaced your campaign manager. It’s the Trump campaign that just paused all television advertising for six days to recalibrate,” he said.
“And I want to put up these polls. First of all, the latest RealClearPolitics average of nine polls, nine separate polls, shows the president trailing Biden by 7.4 points nationally, and in these three swing states, he trails Biden by almost 8 points in Michigan, by more than 6 points in Florida, and 6 points in Pennsylvania, all of those based not on one poll, but on multiple polls in each state. Question: How do you turn this around? Because at this point, Jason, you’re losing,” he asked.
Miller defended the campaign, saying it’s in “great shape” and “well-positioned” to win in November. He said that Trump is in the margin of error on many polls from states he needs to win to carry the Electoral College. Miller also noted that most polls were wrong about 2016, so they are not concerned about poor polling. Wallace doubted Miller’s optimism.
“Are you really going to blame this — it seems to me that you hurt your credibility if you don’t admit, ‘Yeah, we’re losing, and we’ve got to turn things around,'” Wallace said.
Miller disagreed, adding, “The trajectory lines are going very well. I feel the campaign is in a good place.”
