WHAT: From May 2009 through August 2010, Housing and Urban Development Deputy Secretary Ron Sims spent $19,026.13 in government money on trips that went through or to his hometown of Seattle. WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Sims’ decision to repeatedly organize government travel around trips to his home city may not be a violation of the law, but it suggests a worrisome willingness to use taxpayer funds to facilitate trips home.
