Angela Green, the Green Party candidate in the Arizona Senate race, has dropped out and endorsed Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema over Republican Rep. Martha McSally.
“I want them to vote for a better Arizona, and that would be for Kyrsten Sinema,” Green said in an interview Thursday. “What I’m looking to do to help Arizona become more green again. After watching the debates and seeing everything, Sinema’s stance on a lot of things are very close to mine.”
Sinema and McSally are within a point of each other in the race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, according to a RealClearPolitics average of recent polling.
The last survey that included all three women had Green with 6 percent of the vote. Green’s dropping out of the race could give Sinema a few extra points come Election Day, allowing her to defeat McSally.

Green said she chose to drop out because she did not have the financial backing to compete with the main party candidates.
“I have to make the decision that makes sense,” Green said. “I can’t go up against two people who have spent $50 million on their campaigns.”
Despite dropping out five days before the election, Green’s name will remain on the ballot.
