ABC’s broadcast of the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony hit a record ratings low, according to Variety magazine, which cited early Nielsen data in its report.
The magazine said Monday that viewership saw a 16 percent decrease from the previous year’s broadcast.
This year’s show was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, a frequent critic of President Trump on his nightly show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Kimmel has criticized Trump for trying to repeal Obamacare, and for doing “nothing” to restrict access to guns.
The early Nielsen numbers found about 24 million people watched the Oscars on Sunday night, down from 33 million in 2017, though the numbers do not include people who streamed the show on digital devices.
The early ratings reflect “an all-time low,” Variety said.
The second least-watched Oscar show was in 2008, when it was hosted by comedian Jon Stewart, according to Deadline.
